Greek passport photo dimensions

The printed photo is 40 × 60 mm without frame: head 31–35 mm from chin to crown, face 20–25 mm wide ear to ear, eye line 30–39 mm from the bottom edge, head rotation under 5°. Children under 12 may have smaller dimensions. The web page frames the face at 50–60% chin to forehead and 70–75% shoulders to top of hair.

The digital photo for myPhoto

After the ICAO crop the image must be 1600 px high and 1280 px wide, JPG with lossless compression or BMP, with no resizing or recompression after capture. The background is uniform grey, RGB 190 ± 10, with natural colour and even lighting.

Which route applies to you

Printed photos were accepted in Greece only until 31 January 2026; applications in Greece now use the digital myPhoto service on gov.gr. The 40 × 60 mm print, on white, cream or 5% grey, applies to applications abroad: white photographic paper, no inkjet or laser prints, at least 1200 dpi from a digital camera.

Glasses and head coverings

If you usually wear glasses, wear them: clean and transparent, no reflections, frame not over the eyes; dark or photochromic glasses only for medical reasons. No head covering; for religious reasons the face from chin to forehead and ear to ear stays visible. Neutral expression, civilian clothing.

How to take a valid photo

The shared ICAO points first, then what this authority adds.

  • Have someone else take the photo at eye level from a few steps away; most authorities reject selfies.
  • Face the camera straight on with your head level, both eyes open, mouth closed and a neutral expression.
  • Light the face evenly: no shadows on the face or the background, no flash reflections, no red-eye.
  • Keep the photo as taken: no filters, retouching, background replacement or AI edits.
  • Only you in the frame, nothing covering the face, hair away from the eyes, no uniform.
  • Leave space around the head and shoulders so the crop can follow the guide.
  • If you usually wear glasses, wear them: clean and transparent, no reflections, frame not over the eyes; dark or photochromic glasses only for medical reasons.
  • No head covering; for religious reasons the face from chin to forehead and ear to ear stays visible; medical coverings need a doctor’s certificate.
  • Neutral expression, no smile, both eyes open, mouth closed, head rotation under 5°.
  • Civilian clothing, only you in the frame, natural colour, even lighting and no noise.
