HEIC to PNG converter
Drop your HEIC photos below and download them as PNG, one by one or all at once in a zip. The conversion runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded, and it is free with no sign-up or limit.
How to convert HEIC to PNG
- Add your photos. Drag HEIC files onto the box above, or tap Choose files. You can add several at once, and more later.
- Wait a moment. The decoder downloads once, then each photo is decoded and written as a PNG; there is no quality setting, as PNG is lossless.
- Download. Save each PNG with the button next to it, or tap Download all for a zip of every converted photo.
Files in another format are listed with a short reason and a link to the right converter, and the rest of the batch carries on.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the format iPhones have used for photos since iOS 11 in 2017. The name stands for High Efficiency Image Container: it is a HEIF image whose picture is compressed with HEVC, the codec iPhones also use for video. A HEIC photo looks the same as a JPEG but takes noticeably less space; Apple lists about 3 MB for a 24 MP photo in HEIF and 4.8 MB in JPEG.
Apple devices open HEIC everywhere, but plenty of websites, older Windows PCs, printing services and online forms still expect JPG, PNG or PDF.
Why convert HEIC to PNG rather than JPG?
PNG is lossless, so the photo is not compressed a second time, and every edit you make afterwards keeps the pixels exact. That matters if you will retouch the photo, put it through several tools, or need it in a format a design program or a form accepts as PNG. For simply sharing or uploading a photo, the HEIC to JPG converter gives a file several times smaller that looks the same.
What the PNG keeps, and what it leaves out
- Kept: the full picture at its original resolution, the right way up, with no further compression.
- Left out: the date taken, location and camera details. Live Photos contribute the still only, and HDR photos look as they do on a non-HDR screen.
- Size: expect the PNG to be many times larger than the HEIC, often 10 to 20 times, because photos do not compress well losslessly.

Your photos stay on your device
When you add a photo, your browser downloads a HEIC decoder (the open-source libheif, compiled to WebAssembly) and does all the work itself. The photos are read from your disk, decoded in memory and saved as PNG to your downloads folder. No server ever receives your files, and nothing is kept once you close the page. It is the same promise we make in our iPhone app, PrunePic: it reviews your photos on the iPhone itself and never uploads them.
Converting a whole camera roll?
Convert the photos worth keeping, not the 40 near-identical shots of the same sunset. PrunePic shows your photos one at a time, and you swipe left to delete or up to keep, with everything waiting in a trash you can undo. To see how much space photos take first, follow how to check iPhone storage.

Frequently asked questions
Is the HEIC to PNG converter free and safe?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit, and safe because your photos are never uploaded: the conversion runs in your own browser.
Does converting HEIC to PNG reduce quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so the pixels decoded from the HEIC are stored exactly, at the full resolution.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses photos very efficiently and PNG never discards detail, so a PNG 10 to 20 times larger is normal. If size matters, convert to JPG instead.
Can I use it on my iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. The photo picker usually converts HEIC to JPEG itself (Options › Format › Automatic); those JPEGs are converted to PNG all the same. To hand over the original HEIC, choose Current in the picker's Format option or pick the files from the Files app.
Does it work offline?
Once the converter has started, yes. The decoder downloads when you add your first photo; after that you can turn off Wi-Fi and keep converting.
