Photo metadata viewer

See what an image reveals before you share it. Read camera settings, dates, GPS coordinates and embedded text in your browser, then download a JSON report. Your photo stays on your device.

How to view photo metadata

Choose or drop one image, review the file and camera details, then search the tag table. Expand long values to read embedded comments or generation settings. Download JSON if you want to keep the report.

What can you see?

Readable EXIF fields can include camera and lens models, exposure, capture date, software and GPS coordinates. PNG text and XMP can also contain captions, editing information or generation records. Standard tag identifiers and original text values are preserved.

Formats and reading limits

JPG, PNG and WebP support EXIF and supported text or provenance containers. TIFF, HEIC and AVIF receive an EXIF-only inspection. Proprietary maker notes, remote credentials and some extended layouts are not decoded. An incomplete result is marked clearly.

Frequently asked questions

Does every photo contain GPS location?

No. Location depends on the device settings, the export process and whether metadata was removed. No readable GPS fields does not establish where an image was made.

Does this viewer change or upload my photo?

No. The file is read locally and stays unchanged. The JSON download is a separate report and may itself contain private location or comment data.

Can I inspect metadata from a screenshot?

Yes, but a screenshot usually describes a new file. It may not retain the camera settings, location or generation information of the image shown inside it.

Can I remove the metadata after viewing it?

Use the related metadata remover to create a sharing copy without the original tags. Review the copy before sharing; visible faces, addresses and text remain visible.
