Thailand passport and visa photo size

There is no Thai passport photo to prepare: e-passports are applied for in person and staff take the photo and fingerprints. Visa applications on the MFA form take a 3.5 × 4.5 cm front-view photo taken within 6 months, and the e-Visa takes a JPG or JPEG of up to 3 MB. Export the visa photo or the upload.

Thai e-passports are captured in person: staff take the photo and fingerprints, so there is nothing to crop for a passport. The 35 × 45 mm size applies to visa applications.

The MFA visa form takes one to three 3.5 × 4.5 cm prints depending on the visa type and post.

JPG or JPEG up to 3 MB; no pixel size is published, so this export uses 35 × 45 mm at 300 ppi. Do not crop the photo from your passport; shirtless or tank-top photos are rejected.

Online application requirements

Passports are captured in person

Thai e-passports require the applicant in person because biometric data has to be captured; staff take the photo and the fingerprints, and no print is needed. The 35 × 45 mm size on this page applies to visas only.

Visa photo on the MFA form

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa application form asks for photographs taken within the last 6 months, front view, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, one to three copies depending on the visa type and post. Some posts print 3.4 × 4.5 cm or accept white or blue backgrounds; check the post.

The e-Visa upload

The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad’s 2025 FAQ asks for a recent passport-size photograph in JPG or JPEG of at most 3 MB; an older MFA guide capped the profile picture at 200 KB, and no pixel size is published. Do not crop the photo from your passport; shirtless or tank-top photos are rejected.

Figures marked partial

Background, glasses and head-covering rules are not stated on the MFA form; e-Visa guidance seen in search excerpts asks for a proper passport-type photo on a white background, and embassy checklists say no eyeglasses. Confirm with the post handling your visa.

How to take a valid photo

The shared ICAO points first, then what this authority adds.

  • Have someone else take the photo at eye level from a few steps away; most authorities reject selfies.
  • Face the camera straight on with your head level, both eyes open, mouth closed and a neutral expression.
  • Light the face evenly: no shadows on the face or the background, no flash reflections, no red-eye.
  • Keep the photo as taken: no filters, retouching, background replacement or AI edits.
  • Only you in the frame, nothing covering the face, hair away from the eyes, no uniform.
  • Leave space around the head and shoulders so the crop can follow the guide.
  • Front view (visa form).
  • Embassy visa checklists say no eyeglasses.
  • Some posts print 3.4 × 4.5 cm or accept a blue background; check the post.
