Image compressor

Compress images to a maximum file size, such as 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, free in your browser. Choose photos, set the limit and download JPG copies individually or as a zip.

Saves as JPG. Quality adjusts first, then dimensions if needed. Transparent areas become white.

    How to compress a photo

    1. Choose photos or drop them into the tool.
    2. Enter a maximum size in KB, or use a preset such as 100 KB or 1 MB.
    3. Download the JPGs individually or together as a zip.

Choose one or several photos, set the maximum size in KB, and download each result or the whole batch as a zip. The tool uses decimal KB: 500 KB means 500,000 bytes.

    Keep useful detail

The tool tries to keep the original dimensions while finding the highest fitting quality. If that is still too large, it reduces the pixel dimensions. Check that small text and important details remain readable before sending.

    What changes

Downloads are new JPG files. Transparency becomes white and original EXIF metadata is removed. A small source file can grow when converted to JPG, even when the result fits the limit. For transparent images, use the image resizer and choose PNG or WebP instead.

Compress for a form, attachment or website

A form may ask for a photo smaller than 200 KB, while an email attachment may allow several MB. Match the stated limit rather than compressing every photo as far as possible. A photo of a document needs enough detail for small print to remain legible.

Keep the original for editing and printing. This tool creates a separate JPG and does not replace photos in your iPhone library or free device storage automatically.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 100 KB?

Choose your photo and set Maximum file size to 100 KB, or select the 100 KB preset. The tool adjusts JPG quality first and reduces pixel dimensions if needed. Download the result when processing finishes.

Can I compress an image to 1 MB or 2 MB?

Yes. Choose the 1 MB or 2 MB preset, or enter 1000 or 2000 KB. Limits use decimal units: 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes.

    Does image compression reduce quality?

JPG compression is lossy. The tool first searches for a quality setting that fits your limit at the original dimensions. If that is not small enough, it reduces dimensions. A tighter limit can soften fine detail or text.

Can I compress PNG, WebP and HEIC photos?

Yes, along with JPG and browser-supported AVIF files. Results are JPG, so transparent areas become white. For transparency, use the image resizer and save as PNG or WebP instead.

Can I compress several images at once?

Yes. Choose several photos or drop a batch. They are processed one at a time. Download each JPG or all results as a zip; the original files stay unchanged.

Are my photos uploaded to compress them?

No. Files are decoded and compressed inside your browser. Each input file must be under 100 MB, and very large images can exceed browser memory limits.
