Nigerian passport photo dimensions

The portal’s dimension diagram shows a 35 × 45 mm photo with the head at least 29 mm and no more than 34 mm. The background must be white; hair should not cover the face or ears, and lighting should be neither too dark nor too bright.

The portal upload

The Domestic Passport Application Portal says the image resolution should be 600 × 800 px and the file under 2 MB, and provides a Test Photo Upload compliance checker, with captcha, before you apply. The export here is exactly 600 × 800 px.

You still attend for capture

Applicants appear at their chosen Immigration office for photograph and biometric capture. The paper requirements still list two passport-sized photographs for adults, one for minors, endorsed on the back by the guarantor or the consenting parent.

Children and accessories

Do not use apparel such as headphones or masks. ICAO guidelines give some relaxation for children under 5, but they must look toward the camera with the face centred. No recency, glasses, head-covering or expression rule is published on the official pages.

How to take a valid photo

The shared ICAO points first, then what this authority adds.

  • Have someone else take the photo at eye level from a few steps away; most authorities reject selfies.
  • Face the camera straight on with your head level, both eyes open, mouth closed and a neutral expression.
  • Light the face evenly: no shadows on the face or the background, no flash reflections, no red-eye.
  • Keep the photo as taken: no filters, retouching, background replacement or AI edits.
  • Only you in the frame, nothing covering the face, hair away from the eyes, no uniform.
  • Leave space around the head and shoulders so the crop can follow the guide.
  • Hair should not cover the face or ears.
  • No headphones, masks or similar apparel.
  • Lighting neither too dark nor too bright.
  • Children under 5 get some ICAO relaxation but must look toward the camera with the face centred. No recency, glasses or expression rule is published.
